The story of the Waterfront

In 2015, we developed our innovative housing concept – modular studios with all equipment pre-assembled in Prefab. This laid the foundation for a large-scale and cost-effective production of studios that eventually allowed us to build at Kvillepiren. But how did the idea of our studios actually come about?

Mats Svensson, CEO of Svenska Hem in Bromma and initiator of Waterfront Cabins, explains:

“I grew up in northern Dalarna, in a small town called Särna. I spent a lot of my time there in the forest, in the mountains and by the rivers. The forest was always important to us, and we lived off it – it gave us wood that we cut ourselves and used as fuel in our wood-burning stoves for both cooking and heating. I had great respect for forestry and lived in symbiosis with the forest and its wildlife.

We built our first log houses by the river, entirely in wood, with cosy sleeping lofts with different ceiling heights. These lofts became like little homes within the home – cosy, warm and safe.

Since then, I have wanted to offer sleeping lofts as part of the Swedish tradition to guests and customers on a larger scale. Early on in Svenska Hem’s development, I knew we wanted to build high-quality homes in wood, where people would feel comfortable and in harmony.”

And so it was! Our studios are mainly characterised by two things: 100% renewable wood and cosy sleeping lofts, which together create both comfort and smart floor plans. We have Mats to thank for that! 🌟
